別れと歯、かくも甘美な悲しみかな。

Today in rain I went to the Yokohama General Foreign Cemetery with Leslie, Elizabeth, and Toshiko Helm.We went to all the graves of the Helms including two small ones. I remember the Helms as a giant real estate of Yokohama. They had an impressive Helm House built for Tokyo Olympic of 1940 and many houses and stevedore business in pre war days.
They were the witness of pre war and post war Yokohama or should say of Japan.
Don Helm, their father and husband, did his best in keeping the business and feeding many of his relatives
but the world was changing.  It was a prelude to the changing era of Japan in 1973.  It was a chapter one of the changing Japan. The shareholders of Helm Brothers in Hong Kong sold the company to Taiwanese and he sold the Helm House to the government of Kanagawa to make some profit. At the same time Don Helm was going through a lot of stress and filing a divorce with Leslie's mother's.  He sold his 400 tsubo(or about 1200 sq.m.) of his house and plot right across the Foreign Cemetery, today it is Juubankan restaurant and vicinity houses. I asked Leslie on Taiwanese businessman after he bought the Helm Brothers and made a profit out of it.  He told me that the business gambled and lost a huge amount of money. Evil money never stays with you.
I heard every family has a lot of story to tell but few can write it and share with others, and on top of it very few can come with a descent book.
He strongly suggest that I should follow his line and produce a writing to share there is a hundred and one story in this world and especially those who are buried in the cemetery.
