Dear Students and Friends
I think each university student should know what to do for their homework.
Let me write some points of Professor Yoshida Kensaku's talk that took place in Nihon University College of Humanities on Thursday, June 20, 2013.
First he talked on the Japanese government policy and guideline under the previous regime and they stress inevitable need of English as not only communicative skill in internet or transportation but in various fields like environment, energy, or medicine and extended to almost all the fields in this globalized world.
He mentioned the need of revising the entrance examination but not in detail, so it will probably take longer.
He contrasted the Japanese TOEFL iBt score of Japanese students in Asia and obviously Japan ranks the lowest with 90 out of 120 points. He compared the other two tests score and both not impressive. One was IMD ( the world competitiveness index), out of 59 nations Japan rank 58, but I was surprised to see the mobile phone fee is 59, the lowest. He was not concerned with it. Business English Index was the worst of all regions with 3.40 out of full mark of 7 and Korea is 5.24. From these it is obvious that we have problems teaching English.
(to be continued)
