Experimenting from Homepage to Blogspot.com
I went up to Meguro Beyondia International School yesterday to observe their afternoon classes.
I just thought they are another Eikaiwa afternoon classes as I expected from Yokohama Christian School.
They are running afternoon classes with IB program/Cambridge English program. There is a system to it.
I felt more and more IB program is set to be the global standard and Japanese government had decided that will be the global standard system for Japan. Whether you like it or not it is. Mrs. Bernard who was in charge of IB in the whole East Asia in 2007 mentioned to Chuo U. High School (they tried but failed)
that the largest number of IB schools in the world was the USA with 2000 or more schools. Japanese government was the first member to participate 40-50 years ago but did nothing for years suddenly decided to make it their global standard in 2012 and spend three consecutive years free IB training courses for the owners thinking of incorporating or teachers training for schools who were thinking of
incorporating it. I took three years free training under Gyosei Kokusai and Chiyoda International School Tokyo where I met the owners of Horizon,Aoba, and Beyondia international schools.
Beyondia International School, Meguro has 60 students and 12 afternoon class students and pre-school itself ends in 5:30 and extended class will be 7 pm. That is what Hoikuen is supposed to be and most of the "international schools" are Ninka Gai Hoikuen including St. Albans or Yokohama Christian School.
Curriculum itself is well guided by Cambridge and IB system. It is not cheap to have IB system because they will have consultants and coordinators but it looks it is working well.
And Beyondia is run very well by the Director/Owner/RIJICHO who is extremely well educated businessman and without doubt he is very competent.
I ask how they recruit students. They of course have a Homepage and people can refer to it, but the Encho ('I think is extremely competent) said they will hand out brochures in front of Daikanyama Tsutaya(it is like MM21 but more high class being in Tokyo) and have a space or a room at Tsutaya to demonstrate lessons and explain to the young parents( most of them are double income well to do parents, plus Meguro, Shinagawa, Minato pay parents good subsidiary money to have children to be sent to pre-schools
more than other cities).Meguro support money is far higher than Yokohama and YCS parents depend on these subs too and St. Albans too.
One think in this business I notice is that the head of the school must be a Japanese(maybe Chinese or Korean) to contact Japanese government and know and have contact with Japanese business world, maybe as Kermit had said and even New International School head had said "you must be a Japanese or have a Japanese partner to do "English language" business here.
