September 18, 2021 Writing is a key to proficiency in language

Writing is a key to language proficiency.
About 40-50 years ago when the USA had money and common sense
they put money in study of language proficiency with National Scientific Council
and found out writing Journal was the key to improve language proficiency.
I t was first studied by UC Berkeley and extended to Bay Area and was called
"Bay Area Writing project".
The teachers were given money from the Fund and we studied the method
and I think there was a substantial improvement in writing.
I teach writing in EIKEN and found Japanese students cannot write.
I remember Keio University SFC High School entrance test for the returnees was
just simply writing an essay. I thought was easy but it was not.
I think writing Essay is the prime important project in language learning.
